Ibanez RG Series updated ahead of NAMM 2024
The Ibanez RG Series has just been updated in time for the upcoming NAMM 2024 at the end of this month. The Japanese guitar manufacturer has introduced a flood of new models and finishes. The popular Ibanez RG series now includes two new models, including some in the GIO range.
Ibanez RG Series Updated
This year the Ibanez RG Series has a whole slew of updates added to the popular series of guitars. We fully expect them to drop a lot of new colours and models over the coming week or so. For now, we are going to concentrate on the RG models for this article. They are introducing 12 new models/updates to the range this year.
Standard Series
These Standard Series 2024 updates include a Meranti body, a one-piece Wizard III maple, and now two mounted Quantum humbuckers for the Standard Series. Each of these models is an affordable entry point into the 2024 RG lineup.
There are three finishes here: The RG421S * model with the Sea Shore Matte finish for €429. There is also the Ibanez RG421EX * model with the Black Flat finish for €549 and the RG420EX * model for ¢559, also with a Black Flat finish.

Edge-Zero II
Next up there are the mid-tier models comprising two models with Edge-Zero II trem system. For these models in the Ibanez RG series, the manufacturer has used an HSH configuration for the pickups, and 24 jumbo frets, all the hardware is in Cosmo Black, and they have an ash body.
With the RG470DX model, you get the Tokyo Midnight finish for €559 and there is also the Sea Foam Green finish. Finally, the RG470AHM model comes with the Blue Moon Burst finish for €559.

GIO Series 2024
Two new models have been added to the GIO Series of the Ibanez RG series: two models from the GRG320FA series in Transparent Blue Sunburst or Transparent Black Sunburst, and GRGR330EX. The former has five different finishes, and all models come with a pair of Infinity R humbuckers, medium frets, and double-locking trem systems.
For the GRGR330EX model, Ibanez has opted for a Black Flat finish with a poplar body paired with a maple neck. These also with two Infinity R humbuckers.
These are the entry-level models and therefore, have more basic hardware and pickups.

Premium Series and S Series
The new 2024 models here are the RGT1221PB Premium for €1,449 and the RGT1270PB Premium for €1,549. These are more subtle updates to finish, rather than major overhauls.

Next, the 1221 model comes with two passive DiMarzio humbuckers: a DiMarzio Air Norton on the bridge and a DiMarzio The Tone Zone in the neck position.
In addition, the 1270 model comes with an HSH configuration with the same humbuckers and an additional DiMarzio True Velvet in the middle position. Both models come with a 25.5-inch scale length, a basswood body, and an ebony fretboard.
Also new for 2024 is the S1070PBZ with Charcoal Black Burst finish, an HSH configuration, and Edge Zero II tremolo for €1,749, and the models S621QM-DEB and S770-CZM.

More RGs
Ibanez also has these new RG Series models coming out, so there will be plenty of releases for this series over the next 12 months. Including an 8-string iteration for down tuning and lovers of extended-range guitars. It looks like Ibanez is hitting hard this year so there will be plenty of releases ahead of NAMM 2024.
